Hello, I'm back to present a historical reconstruction of the Churchill Mark IV. Unlike its big brother the Mark III and its welded steel plates, this version adopts a fully cast turret to speed up its production from the Vauxhall factoriesDesigned from the outset according to the obsolete doctrine of "infantry tanks," it wasn't built for speed, but for absorbing damage and climbing where no other armored vehicle could go. Its beginnings were nonetheless disastrous, particularly during the disastrous Dieppe Raid in 1942 where it was bogged down on the beaches. Far from admitting defeat, British engineers corrected its early flaws to make it the backbone of armored divisions. In Normandy, its massive frontal armor discouraged more than one German gunner, while its chassis served as the basis for the famous "Hobart's Funnies," tanks modified to clear mines and destroy bunkers. In short, a monster of resilience which, despite its mediocre 6-pounder gun against the Panzerwaffe's beasts, remained a symbol of British tenacity until the end of the war. P.-S. Yes, this problem was so serious that British crews were recovering long 75mm guns from Sherman tanks to forcibly install them in the Churchill turret.
